Job Board Software & Migration
Switching platforms or launching on new software is high-stakes. A botched migration can wipe out years of organic traffic in a week.
The Problem
Job board operators hit platform limits. The off-the-shelf solution that worked at 10K jobs can't handle 500K. The custom-built platform needs features the dev team can't ship fast enough. Or the business model shifts — from employer-pay to aggregator, from generalist to niche — and the current stack doesn't support it.
Migration is the obvious answer, but it's also the riskiest move you can make. I've seen boards lose 50% of their organic traffic after a migration because redirects were incomplete, SSR wasn't implemented, structured data broke, or the new URL structure didn't map to the old taxonomy. Recovery takes months. Some boards never fully recover.
How I Work
I've led migrations across multiple platforms and helped launch job boards from scratch. I know the major job board software options, their strengths, their limitations, and where they break at scale.
Platform Evaluation. Whether you're considering Jobboard.io, Madgex, Recooty, a headless CMS approach, or a fully custom build — I evaluate platforms against your specific requirements: job volume, traffic scale, monetization model, multilingual needs, ATS integrations, and SEO capabilities. The right platform depends on your business, not on who has the best marketing site.
Migration Planning. Every migration project starts with an SEO preservation plan: full URL mapping from old to new, redirect implementation (301s, not 302s), structured data validation, sitemap generation, Indexing API reconfiguration, and a rollback plan. I've reversed traffic losses from failed migrations — it's easier to prevent them.
SSR & Rendering. Job boards built on React/Next.js or Vue/Nuxt need server-side rendering for search engine crawlers. Client-side rendered category pages don't get indexed. I specify the rendering requirements and work with your engineering team to validate that Googlebot sees what your users see.
Launch & Monitoring. Post-migration monitoring for 8–12 weeks: indexing status, crawl errors, ranking changes, traffic recovery curves. Issues get caught in days, not months.
Technologies & Tools
Jobboard.io, Madgex, custom platforms (Rails, Django, Next.js, Nuxt), Cloudflare, AWS, Google Search Console, Screaming Frog, redirect mapping tools, rendering validation (Google's URL Inspection API, mobile-friendly test).
Results
- EU Job Board (Denmark): Full platform migration with SEO-optimized taxonomy — 3x traffic growth post-migration, leading to acquisition by Jobindex.dk.
- EU Niche Job Board (UK): Reversed a 50% traffic loss caused by a failed migration — 100% recovery through new site structure and SSR implementation.
- Multiple EU boards: Platform evaluations and migration planning for boards moving from legacy software to modern stacks.
Migrations don't have to be risky. They just have to be planned by someone who's done them. Let's talk.
